Legacy data is inactive data which isn’t usually required for day to day business activities. Its growth tends to come from changes in IT or with business strategy, and applications becoming retired (commonly left as a resource for future reference). It often sits outside of an organization’s information governance strategy, exposing you to business risk, expense and operational inefficiency. It is reported that as much as 70% of all content contained in an unmanaged server could be classified as ROT.
